The No. 10 Loyola Wolf Pack just don’t lose when they’re playing in the friendly confines of The Den. On Saturday, Loyola captured its 26th straight win in its home gym with a 67-55 win over the Mobile Rams. Loyola (19-1, 12-1 in SSAC) will next host Faulkner (17-5, 9-3) on Thursday at 5:30 pm in a battle of the first- and second-place teams in the Southern States Athletic Conference standings. In the first quarter, Kennedy Hansberry kicked things off scoring the first points for the Pack for a 2-0 lead. Although they traded shots, the Pack maintained their lead through the scoring frenzy of the first quarter. With seven seconds left, Taylor Thomas drained an emphatic 3-pointer to give Loyola a four-point lead to end the first quarter, 24-20. Then, Sydni Tangle hit a 3 to put the Pack up seven points. Loyola continued their dominance with a foul by the Rams to help Sandra Cannady drain both free throws. Another 3 by Tangle put Loyola up 12 with over six minutes left in the second quarter. Behind Loyola’s remarkable defense, a jump shot by Tay Cannon put the lead at 15 to end the half, 39-24. In the second half, the Pack continued to their strong standing against the Rams, maintaining the lead in both quarters. In the third quarter, the Rams fought back, putting Loyola at an eight-point lead. However, the Pack responded in the third quarter’s final three minutes, maintaining a 13-point lead. When the buzzer sounded, the Pack were victorious over the conference rival Rams, winning 67-55.
