“When it came time for us to launch our own titles, we had this massive growth barrier in the way,” Kian said. “To effectively scale a game, we needed to use anywhere from six to eight platforms, each specializing in a different thing.”
Across several publishers they worked with, the brothers needed several subscriptions for tools for analytics, distribution measurements, live ops systems for delivering remote testing for users, progression platforms for tracking player journeys and monetization system for tracking in-app purchases and in-game ad revenue, among others.
“Each one of these platforms are all individual integrations, all with individual monthly fees and those costs don’t go down as your user count goes up,” Kian said, adding that those costs were prohibitive to driving any meaningful revenue. “So, we kind of had this head scratching moment going, ‘Hey what are we going to do to fix this issue?’”
The answer the Houzori brothers came up with is ByteBrew – an all-in-one mobile game analytics platform that provides developers with everything they need in order to grow their games business.
Fast User Adoption
The brothers built the platform and then launched ByteBrew in the summer of 2021 with a goal of attracting 50 developers using the platform by the end of the year – what the brothers saw as a good measurement of marketability to test interest in the integrated platform.
“And instead of 50 developers, we had over 2,500 join the platform,” Kian said. “Currently we have more than 5,000 developers using the platform, including some of the largest players on the app store utilizing it with their publishing and marketing teams.”
The ByteBrew platform also expanded beyond mobile games to include any mobile app.
“When we first started, we were geared toward games, but what ended up happening was as we started getting game developers, they started telling their app developer friends. Soon we were getting a bunch of requests from developers to start supporting more platforms in mobile,” Kian said, adding that ByteBrew recently built out new software development kits for mobile app development languages like Flutter, Swift and React Native.
Kian said the potential market for mobile app developers to adopt ByeBrew is in the millions. The Google Play app store alone has more than 250,000 registered developers.
“There’s a very big market of people constantly creating new games,” he said.
To capitalize on the platform’s quicker than expected success and the potential market yet to be addressed, ByteBrew made it official this year and became a licensed company with Cameron as CEO and Kian as chief operating officer.
The startup company that set out to disrupt the mobile app development industry has already started attracting investors. In late October, ByteBrew raised $4 million in a seed round led by Denver-based Konvoy. Additional participants in the round include venture capital firm Valhalla Ventures, early-stage venture fund Node Ventures and other angel investors.
The funding will be used to further develop new technologies for developers and expand the team.
“It’s incredible to see what Cameron and Kian have achieved since they launched ByteBrew. They’ve changed the way mobile games developers work, allowing them to easily analyze the usability of their games in real-time and give them the ability to scale-up new ideas quicker than before,” said Konvoy Principal Taylor Hurst who will be joining ByteBrew’s board. “It’s exciting to think about what ByteBrew can achieve with a bigger team behind them, and how they will inevitably become an industry leader within the mobile games analytics vertical for years to come.”
One of the goals for ByteBrew as it scales up is to further develop and implement a monetization plan for the currently free platform. Kian said that he and his brother Dele would like to keep the platform free so future app developers will not have the expenses they ran into when they started, although future products on the platform that help developers grow even further will be monetized.
“We built ByteBrew to re-define what is considered industry standard for game developers, so developers can stop paying for expensive services with complex integrations that leave their data siloed across multiple segmented platforms,” he said. “ByteBrew removes the growth barriers developers face by providing all the tools and services they need to hit the top chart on one platform.”
